Beau Vallon is the most popular beach in the Seychelles — a long, beautiful bay on the northwest coast of Mahé with calm, clear water, a wide range of water sports and the most lively beach atmosphere on the island. The beach is lined with restaurants and beach bars and is the social hub of Mahé.
The Morne Seychellois National Park covers over 20% of Mahé — a beautiful area of granite mountains, tropical forest and extraordinary biodiversity. The park has excellent hiking trails, including the trail to the summit of Morne Seychellois (905m, the highest point in the Seychelles). The views from the summit are extraordinary.
Victoria is the smallest capital city in the world — a charming, compact town with a beautiful clock tower (a miniature replica of the one in Vauxhall Bridge Road, London), a colourful market, Hindu temples, mosques and the fascinating Natural History Museum. The town is easy to explore on foot in half a day.
Anse Intendance is the most beautiful beach on Mahé — a wild, dramatic bay on the south coast with powerful surf, extraordinary granite boulders and a sense of untamed natural beauty. The beach is not suitable for swimming (strong currents) but is one of the most spectacular in the Seychelles. The Four Seasons Seychelles overlooks the bay.
Mahé has excellent snorkelling and diving — the reefs around the island are in good condition and the marine life is abundant. The best snorkelling is at Anse Major (accessible by boat or a 45-minute hike), Beau Vallon and the offshore islands. The dive centres offer PADI courses and guided dives.
The Four Seasons Seychelles at Petite Anse is one of the most spectacular resorts in the Indian Ocean — a hillside property with extraordinary infinity pool villas overlooking the ocean, exceptional dining and impeccable service. The resort is consistently rated among the finest hotels in the world.
Mahé is the gateway to the other islands of the Seychelles — Praslin (1 hour by ferry or 15 minutes by plane) and La Digue (2 hours by ferry) are easily accessible. Most visitors to the Seychelles spend a few nights on Mahé before island-hopping to Praslin and La Digue.
Mahé has the finest selection of restaurants in the Seychelles — from upmarket Creole restaurants to local takeaways serving grilled fish, octopus curry and the extraordinary variety of Seychellois cuisine. The Victoria market is the best place to try local food and buy fresh fruit, spices and handicrafts.
