Top 8 Things To Do in Greece

The iconic views, ancient ruins, world-class beaches and extraordinary island characters that make Greece the most rewarding summer destination in Europe.

01

Santorini — The Most Iconic Views in the Mediterranean

Santorini is the most photographed island in the world — the whitewashed villages of Oia and Fira perched on the rim of a volcanic caldera, with the deep blue Aegean 300m below. The sunset from Oia is one of the great travel experiences. Luxury cave hotels (carved into the caldera cliff face) offer extraordinary views from private plunge pools. The black sand beaches of Perissa and Kamari, the ancient ruins of Akrotiri (a Bronze Age city preserved by volcanic ash) and the volcanic hot springs add to the extraordinary experience.

02

Crete — Greece's Largest and Most Diverse Island

Crete is the largest Greek island and arguably the most diverse — world-class all-inclusive resorts on the north coast (the Ikos and Mitsis resort groups have some of the finest AI hotels in Europe), the ancient Minoan Palace of Knossos (Europe's oldest civilisation), the dramatic Samaria Gorge (the longest gorge in Europe, 16km), the pink sand beach of Elafonisi, the Venetian harbour of Chania and the extraordinary Lasithi Plateau. Crete has something for every type of traveller.

03

Rhodes — Medieval Walled City & Long Sandy Beaches

Rhodes has one of the best-preserved medieval walled cities in the world — the Old Town of Rhodes (UNESCO World Heritage) is a labyrinth of cobbled streets, Ottoman mosques, Byzantine churches and the magnificent Street of the Knights, all enclosed within 4km of Crusader walls. Outside the walls, Rhodes has excellent beaches (Faliraki, Lindos, Prasonisi), the dramatic clifftop village of Lindos with its ancient acropolis, and a wide range of resorts from lively to tranquil.

04

Corfu — Lush, Venetian and Extraordinarily Beautiful

Corfu is the greenest and most lush of the Greek islands — its position in the Ionian Sea brings more rainfall than the Aegean islands, creating a landscape of olive groves, cypress trees and wildflowers. The Corfu Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage) is a beautiful Venetian quarter of narrow streets, elegant arcades and two imposing fortresses. The north of the island has the most beautiful beaches (Paleokastritsa, Sidari, Kassiopi) while the south has the liveliest resorts (Kavos, Benitses).

05

Mykonos — Glamour, Nightlife and Iconic Windmills

Mykonos is the most glamorous and cosmopolitan of the Greek islands — a playground for celebrities, the fashion world and the international jet set, with world-class beach clubs (Paradise, Super Paradise), excellent restaurants, designer boutiques and the most vibrant nightlife in Greece. The iconic windmills above the harbour, the charming Little Venice waterfront and the maze of whitewashed streets of Mykonos Town (Chora) are the most photographed sights. Mykonos is also the gateway to the sacred island of Delos.

06

Zakynthos — Navagio Beach and the Blue Caves

Zakynthos (Zante) has the most dramatic natural scenery of any Greek island — the Navagio (Shipwreck) Beach is one of the most photographed beaches in the world, a rusting shipwreck on a white pebble beach enclosed by towering white limestone cliffs, accessible only by boat. The Blue Caves on the north coast are extraordinary sea caves where the water glows an intense electric blue. The island also has excellent family resorts (Laganas, Tsilivi) and is a nesting site for loggerhead sea turtles.

07

Halkidiki — Three Peninsulas, World-Class Resorts

Halkidiki on the Greek mainland is one of the best-kept secrets in European beach holidays — three peninsulas (Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos) jutting into the Aegean with extraordinary beaches, crystal-clear water and some of the finest all-inclusive resorts in Europe. Sithonia is the most beautiful peninsula, with pine forests running down to turquoise coves. The Ikos Oceania and Ikos Olivia resorts in Halkidiki are consistently rated among the best all-inclusive hotels in the world.

08

Kos — Ancient History, Long Beaches and Watersports

Kos is one of the most underrated Greek islands — a long, narrow island with excellent beaches (Tigaki, Marmari, Kefalos), the ancient ruins of the Asklepion (a healing sanctuary where Hippocrates, the father of medicine, taught), a charming harbour town with a Crusader castle and a vibrant nightlife scene. Kos is also one of the best islands in Greece for watersports — the consistent winds make it excellent for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Excellent value all-inclusive resorts make it a top choice for families.
