Spain is the undisputed king of British package holidays — and has been for decades. From the year-round sunshine of the Canary Islands to the beautiful beaches of the Balearics and the vibrant culture of the mainland, Spain has something for every type of traveller.
The Canary Islands — Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura — are Spain's most popular holiday islands for good reason. Their position just off the coast of Africa means they enjoy warm, sunny weather throughout the year, making them perfect for winter sun breaks as well as summer holidays.
The Balearic Islands — Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca — are the quintessential Mediterranean holiday destination. Majorca is the largest and most diverse, with everything from lively Magaluf to the tranquil north coast. Ibiza is famous for its nightlife but also has beautiful beaches and a charming old town. Menorca is the quietest and most unspoilt of the three.
Both Travelpack and JTA Holidays have outstanding selections of Spanish holidays, with excellent all-inclusive options across all the main islands. We search both simultaneously to find you the best deal.

Tenerife is the largest Canary Island and one of the most visited holiday destinations in the world — year-round sunshine (never below 18°C), the world's best waterpark (Siam Park), luxury 5-star all-inclusive resorts in Costa Adeje and the extraordinary Mount Teide (3,715m, Spain's highest peak, UNESCO World Heritage). The south has the most popular resorts; the north is greener and more traditional. Tenerife is the perfect winter sun destination — warm and sunny when the rest of Europe is grey.
Majorca is Spain's largest Balearic island and one of Europe's most popular and diverse holiday destinations — over 200 beaches, the Serra de Tramuntana mountains (UNESCO World Heritage), a world-class capital city (Palma, with a stunning Gothic cathedral), and resorts ranging from lively Magaluf to the elegant Puerto Pollensa. Alcudia in the north has the best family beaches. The southeast coves (Cala d'Or, Cala Mondragó) are extraordinarily beautiful. Majorca is just 2h 20m from the UK.
Ibiza is the most famous party island in the world — the nightclubs of San Antonio and Ibiza Town (Pacha, Amnesia, Ushuaïa, Hi Ibiza) attract the world's best DJs and hundreds of thousands of clubbers every summer. But Ibiza also has a completely different side — the north of the island is quiet, rural and beautiful, with excellent beaches (Cala Bassa, Cala Conta, Cala Salada), a charming UNESCO-listed old town (Dalt Vila) and excellent restaurants. Ibiza is one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean.
Barcelona is one of the world's great cities — the extraordinary architecture of Antoni Gaudí (the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Casa Milà), the Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, the Picasso Museum, the Camp Nou and the best city beach in Europe (Barceloneta). Barcelona is also the gateway to the Costa Brava (dramatic rocky coastline north of the city) and the Costa Dorada (long sandy beaches south of the city). A city break to Barcelona combines perfectly with a beach stay on the Costa Brava.
Lanzarote is the most dramatic and distinctive of the Canary Islands — a volcanic landscape of black lava fields, craters and the extraordinary Timanfaya National Park (where the ground temperature 10cm below the surface is 600°C). The island has been shaped by the vision of local artist César Manrique, who designed the Jameos del Agua (a concert hall inside a lava tube), the Jardín de Cactus and the Mirador del Río. Lanzarote has excellent beaches (Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen, Famara) and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Fuerteventura has the finest beaches in Spain and some of the best in Europe — vast stretches of white sand and turquoise water that rival the Caribbean. The Corralejo Natural Park in the north (a protected area of white sand dunes) and the Jandia Peninsula in the south (a 30km arc of beach) are extraordinary. Fuerteventura is also the best destination in Europe for windsurfing and kitesurfing — the consistent trade winds and flat water of the Sotavento lagoon attract world-championship events.
The Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) in Andalusia is the original British beach holiday destination — Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Nerja have been welcoming British tourists since the 1960s. Marbella is the most glamorous resort — the Golden Mile, Puerto Banús marina and the old town are all excellent. Nerja has the most beautiful scenery (the Balcón de Europa viewpoint is extraordinary). The Costa del Sol has excellent golf courses, good restaurants and reliable sunshine from April to October.
Menorca is the quietest and most unspoilt of the Balearic Islands — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with a rugged north coast (dramatic limestone cliffs and coves) and a calmer south coast (the finest beaches in the Balearics — Cala Macarella, Cala Turqueta, Son Bou). The island has no large resorts and no nightlife to speak of — it's the perfect choice for those seeking a peaceful, natural holiday. The capital Mahón has a beautiful natural harbour (one of the largest in the Mediterranean) and excellent restaurants.
