La Digue is the most beautiful island in the Seychelles — a small, car-free paradise where Anse Source d'Argent (the most photographed beach on earth) and the extraordinary granite boulders create a landscape of unmatched natural beauty.
Cycling around the island is one of the great travel experiences. The L'Union Estate, the Veuve Reserve and the boat trips to the offshore islands are all excellent. The pace of life is extraordinarily slow and peaceful.

Anse Source d'Argent is the most photographed beach on earth — a series of small coves separated by extraordinary pink-orange granite boulders, with shallow turquoise water and fine white sand. The beach is accessible through the L'Union Estate (small entrance fee). It is one of the most spectacular natural environments in the world.
La Digue is a car-free island — the main transport is bicycle and ox-cart. Cycling around La Digue is one of the great travel experiences — the island is small enough to explore in a day, the roads are quiet and the scenery is extraordinary. Bicycles can be hired from the ferry terminal for approximately £5 per day.
Grand Anse and Petite Anse are two of the most dramatic beaches on La Digue — wild, powerful beaches on the south coast with strong surf, extraordinary granite boulders and a sense of untamed natural beauty. The beaches are not suitable for swimming (strong currents) but are among the most spectacular in the Seychelles.
L'Union Estate is a historic coconut plantation and the gateway to Anse Source d'Argent. The estate has a traditional copra (coconut oil) mill, a giant tortoise enclosure, a vanilla plantation and a beautiful colonial house. The estate is one of the most atmospheric and historically interesting sites in the Seychelles.
La Digue has excellent snorkelling and diving — the reefs around the island are in good condition and the marine life is abundant. The best snorkelling is at Anse Source d'Argent (at high tide), Anse Cocos and the offshore rocks. The dive centre offers guided dives on the excellent nearby reefs.
The Veuve Reserve is a small nature reserve in the centre of La Digue — the last stronghold of the Seychelles paradise flycatcher (veuve), one of the rarest birds in the world. The reserve has a short walking trail and the paradise flycatcher (the male has an extraordinary long black tail) can be seen with patience.
Boat trips from La Digue to the nearby uninhabited islands — Félicité, Cocos and the Sisters — are excellent. The snorkelling at these offshore islands is extraordinary, with pristine coral, abundant marine life and crystal-clear water. The boat trips are one of the finest experiences in the Seychelles.
La Digue has a small but excellent selection of restaurants — local Creole restaurants serving fresh grilled fish, octopus curry and the extraordinary variety of Seychellois cuisine. The restaurants are informal, affordable and authentic. The Lanbousir restaurant is particularly celebrated.
