Caribbean Holiday Guide

The Caribbean is the holiday destination that most people dream about — and for good reason. With over 7,000 islands spread across the warm Caribbean Sea, it offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, crystal-clear turquoise water and a relaxed, welcoming culture that makes every visitor feel immediately at home.

Antigua is one of the Caribbean's crown jewels — famous for its 365 beaches, one for every day of the year. The island has a more exclusive feel than many of its neighbours, with excellent sailing, a UNESCO World Heritage Site at Nelson's Dockyard and some outstanding luxury all-inclusive resorts. Dickenson Bay is the island's most famous beach — a mile of golden sand with excellent facilities and watersports. Half Moon Bay, on the wilder eastern coast, is one of the most beautiful and secluded beaches in the entire Caribbean.

Aruba is the Caribbean's sunniest secret. Located just 15 miles north of Venezuela, it sits firmly outside the hurricane belt — meaning it enjoys year-round sunshine while other islands are bracing for tropical storms. Eagle Beach, voted the best beach in the Caribbean, is a two-mile stretch of impossibly white sand with calm, shallow turquoise water and the iconic Fofoti trees. The island's Dutch colonial capital, Oranjestad, is colourful, vibrant and excellent for duty-free shopping.

Barbados is the most popular Caribbean destination for British tourists, with excellent infrastructure, beautiful beaches on the west "Platinum Coast" and a wide range of accommodation from boutique guesthouses to ultra-luxury Sandals resorts. St Lucia is arguably the most dramatic Caribbean island, with its iconic Piton mountains, lush rainforest and stunning beaches — particularly popular for honeymoons and romantic getaways.

The Caribbean is a long-haul destination — flights from London take between 8 and 11 hours depending on the island. Most visitors opt for at least 10 to 14 nights to make the most of the journey.
