Top 8 Things To Do in Petitenget

The world-class restaurants, the luxury villas, the designer boutiques and the most sophisticated and upmarket dining and lifestyle neighbourhood in Bali.

01

Restaurant Scene

Petitenget has the finest concentration of restaurants in Bali — the neighbourhood is home to some of the most acclaimed and celebrated restaurants in Southeast Asia. The best include Sarong (the most beautiful restaurant in Bali, in a stunning colonial villa with extraordinary Asian cuisine), Merah Putih (spectacular Indonesian fine dining in a dramatic bamboo and glass building), Mama San (Asian comfort food in a beautiful colonial space), Bikini (excellent Mediterranean food with a beautiful pool terrace) and Barbacoa (the finest steakhouse in Bali).

02

Luxury Villas

Petitenget has the finest luxury villa accommodation in the Seminyak area — the neighbourhood has a high concentration of private villas with pools, many of which are available for rent. The villas range from intimate two-bedroom retreats to large family compounds with multiple pools and full staff. The finest villa rental agencies in Bali are based in Petitenget. Staying in a private villa in Petitenget is the most luxurious and private way to experience Seminyak.

03

Designer Boutiques

Petitenget has the finest designer boutiques in the Seminyak area — the neighbourhood has a concentration of high-end fashion boutiques, concept stores and designer homeware shops that are more exclusive and less commercial than the shops of central Seminyak. The best include Biasa (the most established Balinese fashion designer), Drifter (the finest surf and lifestyle boutique in Bali), Carga (excellent homeware and lifestyle products) and the many independent boutiques along Jalan Petitenget.

04

Petitenget Beach

Petitenget Beach is the northern extension of Seminyak Beach — a quieter, less crowded stretch of the same dramatic volcanic sand, with fewer beach clubs and a more relaxed atmosphere. The beach is popular with surfers and is the best spot for a quiet sunset walk away from the crowds of the main Seminyak beach clubs. The Pura Petitenget temple sits on the headland above the beach and is the most important sea temple in the Seminyak area.

05

Spas & Wellness

Petitenget has excellent spa and wellness facilities — the neighbourhood has a high concentration of luxury spas, yoga studios and wellness centres. The finest spas include the Sundari Day Spa (the most acclaimed day spa in Seminyak), the Jari Menari (famous for its extraordinary male therapists and traditional Balinese massage techniques) and the Prana Spa (a spectacular Moroccan-inspired spa in a beautiful villa). The spas are significantly more affordable than equivalent facilities in Europe.

06

Pura Petitenget

Pura Petitenget is one of the most important sea temples in Bali — a beautiful Hindu temple on the headland above Petitenget Beach, with extraordinary views of the Indian Ocean and the Seminyak coastline. The temple is one of a chain of sea temples around the Balinese coast and is still in active use. It is open to respectful visitors (sarong required) and is the most atmospheric temple in the Seminyak area. The temple is particularly beautiful at sunset.

07

Accommodation

Petitenget has excellent accommodation across all price ranges — from simple guesthouses and boutique hotels to extraordinary luxury villas. The finest hotels include the Katamama (the most beautiful boutique hotel in Seminyak, with handcrafted Balinese interiors and a beautiful pool), the Alila Seminyak (the most architecturally striking hotel in the area) and the W Bali (the most stylish hotel on the beach). The neighbourhood also has dozens of excellent private villas available for rent.

08

Practical Tips

Petitenget is the northern extension of Seminyak, approximately 35 minutes from the airport by taxi. The neighbourhood is best explored on foot or by motorbike — the main street (Jalan Petitenget) runs north from central Seminyak towards Canggu. The restaurants are the main draw — book Sarong and Merah Putih well in advance. April to October is the best time to visit. The neighbourhood is quieter and more residential than central Seminyak and is the best base for those who want a more relaxed Seminyak experience.
