Double Six Rooftop
The Double Six Rooftop is the most famous sunset bar in Seminyak — a spectacular rooftop bar on the Double Six Hotel, with a large infinity pool, extraordinary views of the beach and the Indian Ocean, and a vibrant party atmosphere from sunset onwards. The bar is the most popular sunset destination for the young, international crowd in Seminyak and fills up quickly from 5pm. The cocktails are excellent and the views are extraordinary. Book a table in advance during peak season.
La Plancha
La Plancha is the most colourful and fun beach bar in Bali — a legendary institution on Double Six Beach, with brightly coloured beanbags and low tables set directly on the sand, cold Bintang beer, simple food and a relaxed, social atmosphere. The bar is the most democratic and accessible beach bar in Seminyak — no dress code, no minimum spend, no attitude. The sunset at La Plancha is the most fun and unpretentious beach experience in Seminyak.
Sunset Scene
Double Six Beach has the most vibrant and social sunset scene in Seminyak — the combination of the Double Six Rooftop, La Plancha and the simple beach warungs creates an extraordinary atmosphere as the sun drops below the horizon. The beach fills up from 5pm with a young, international crowd and the energy builds to a peak at sunset (approximately 6–6:30pm). The sunset at Double Six is more energetic and social than at the southern Seminyak beach clubs.
Surfing
Double Six Beach has excellent surf — a consistent beach break with waves suitable for intermediate surfers. The surf is similar to the main Seminyak Beach but slightly less crowded. Several surf schools operate on the beach and offer lessons for beginners. The best surf is in the dry season (April–October). The beach is also popular for bodyboarding and boogie boarding. The surf at Double Six is the best in the northern Seminyak area.
Beachfront Dining
Double Six Beach has good beachfront dining — a mix of beach warungs, casual restaurants and the Double Six Hotel restaurant. The beach warungs serve simple Indonesian food and cold drinks at very reasonable prices and are the most affordable dining option on the Seminyak beachfront. The Double Six Hotel restaurant is more upmarket and has excellent views of the beach. The area is generally more affordable than the southern Seminyak beach clubs.
The Beach
Double Six Beach is the northern section of the long Seminyak beach — a wide stretch of dark volcanic sand with powerful Indian Ocean surf and extraordinary sunset views. The beach is named after the legendary Double Six nightclub that operated here in the 1990s. The beach is less manicured than the southern Seminyak sections but has a more authentic and energetic atmosphere. The beach is popular with surfers, bodyboarders and the young, international crowd.
Legian Street
Legian Street (Jalan Legian) runs parallel to the beach just inland from Double Six Beach — a busy commercial street with a mix of surf shops, souvenir shops, restaurants and bars. The street is more affordable and less fashionable than Oberoi Street in central Seminyak but has a good range of surf gear, clothing and souvenirs at reasonable prices. The street is the best place to buy surf equipment and beach clothing in the northern Seminyak area.
Practical Tips
Double Six Beach is at the northern end of Seminyak, approximately 30 minutes from the airport by taxi. The beach is accessible from Jalan Double Six (a short street running from Jalan Legian to the beach). The Double Six Rooftop bar opens from midday and fills up from 5pm for sunset — arrive by 5pm to get a good spot. La Plancha is open from midday. The beach is at its most vibrant from 5–8pm. April to October is the best time to visit.
