Flic en Flac faces west and has the most spectacular sunsets in Mauritius — the sun sets directly over the Indian Ocean, turning the sky orange, pink and purple. The sunset from the beach, with a cold Phoenix beer in hand, is one of the great pleasures of a Mauritius holiday. The beach bars and restaurants fill up every evening for the sunset.
The reefs off Flic en Flac are among the finest in Mauritius — the Rempart Serpent, La Cathédrale and Couline Bambou are world-class dive sites with extraordinary coral formations, abundant marine life and excellent visibility. The dive centres at the major resorts offer PADI courses and guided dives.
Flic en Flac beach is one of the longest on the west coast of Mauritius — a wide stretch of white sand with calm, warm water, backed by casuarina trees and a mix of hotels, restaurants and local houses. The beach is popular with both tourists and local Mauritians, giving it a more authentic and lively atmosphere than the more exclusive east coast resorts.
Casela World of Adventures, 10 minutes from Flic en Flac, is the most popular attraction in Mauritius — a wildlife park and adventure centre with lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and a wide range of adventure activities including zip-lining, quad biking and segway tours. It is excellent for families and adventure seekers.
The waters off the west coast of Mauritius are home to resident populations of spinner and bottlenose dolphins. Early morning dolphin watching excursions from Flic en Flac are excellent — the dolphins are frequently seen and swimming with them is possible on some trips. The experience is more natural and less crowded than the dolphin tours at Tamarin.
The Black River Gorges National Park, 20 minutes from Flic en Flac, is the most important nature reserve in Mauritius — a beautiful area of native forest with excellent hiking, birdwatching and waterfalls. The nearby town of Tamarin is a charming surf town with a relaxed atmosphere and excellent local restaurants.
Flic en Flac has excellent water sports — the calm lagoon is ideal for kayaking, paddleboarding and windsurfing. The consistent trade winds make the west coast one of the best windsurfing destinations in Mauritius. Deep-sea fishing excursions are also available from the local fishing harbour.
Flic en Flac has the most authentic and affordable restaurant scene in Mauritius — a wide range of local Mauritian restaurants serving excellent Creole cuisine, Indian curries, Chinese food and fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. The local dholl puri stalls and street food are excellent.
