Nui Bay is the most pristine and unspoilt bay on Koh Lanta — a tiny, perfect cove of white sand fringed by jungle-covered hills on three sides, with crystal-clear turquoise water and a coral reef that begins just metres from the shore. The bay is accessible only by boat or a steep 20-minute jungle track from the road above, which keeps it blissfully uncrowded. The water is extraordinarily clear and the bay has a genuinely wild and remote atmosphere.
Nui Bay has the finest snorkelling on Koh Lanta — a healthy coral reef begins just 20 metres from the shore, with excellent visibility (often 15–20 metres), a wide variety of reef fish (parrotfish, angelfish, clownfish, moray eels), sea turtles and occasional reef sharks. The snorkelling is accessible directly from the beach without a boat trip, making it the most convenient and rewarding snorkelling on the island. Snorkelling equipment is available from the resort.
Nui Bay has a single resort — a small, beautifully designed collection of bungalows and villas set directly on the beach and in the jungle above, with a beachfront restaurant, a small pool and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere. The resort is the most remote and secluded on Koh Lanta and is popular with couples and divers seeking a truly off-the-beaten-track experience. The beach access and snorkelling are exceptional.
Nui Bay is the most peaceful and secluded destination on Koh Lanta — the difficult access (boat or steep jungle track) means the bay is never crowded and retains a genuinely wild and remote atmosphere. The bay is surrounded by jungle on three sides and the only sounds are the waves, the birds and the wind in the palms. It is the ideal destination for travellers seeking complete peace and seclusion.
The jungle surrounding Nui Bay is home to a variety of wildlife — monitor lizards, macaque monkeys, hornbills and a variety of tropical birds are commonly seen. The jungle track from the road to the bay passes through dense tropical forest and is an excellent short hike. The Koh Lanta National Park is 10 minutes south of Nui Bay and has additional jungle trails and wildlife.
Nui Bay is an excellent base for diving — the bay is close to the finest dive sites around Koh Lanta, including Hin Daeng and Hin Muang (two of the top dive sites in Southeast Asia). The dive centre at the resort offers day trips to all the main dive sites. The snorkelling directly in the bay is excellent and is a good introduction to the underwater world of the Andaman for non-divers.
The sunsets at Nui Bay are extraordinary — the bay faces west and the jungle-covered hills on either side frame the sunset in a dramatic way. The beach is the finest place to watch the sunset on Koh Lanta, with the coral reef visible through the clear water in the foreground and the Andaman Sea stretching to the horizon. The sunsets at Nui Bay are among the finest in Thailand.
Nui Bay is accessible by longtail boat from Kantiang Bay (10 minutes) or by a steep 20-minute jungle track from the road above the bay. The track is steep and can be slippery in wet weather — good footwear is recommended. The resort can arrange boat transfers from Kantiang Bay or Saladan. November to April is the best time to visit — the bay is sheltered and the snorkelling visibility is at its best. The bay is inaccessible during the wet season.
