Klong Nin Beach is a long, slightly wilder and more natural stretch of sand than Long Beach — the sand is golden, the water is clear and the beach is backed by casuarina trees and low-rise bungalows rather than large resort complexes. The beach faces west and has extraordinary sunset views. The surf is slightly stronger than Long Beach, making it better for bodyboarding but less suitable for very young children. The beach is never crowded.
Klong Nin is the yoga and wellness capital of Koh Lanta — several excellent yoga retreats and wellness centres operate from the beach road, offering daily yoga classes, meditation, Thai massage, detox programmes and holistic therapies. The Oasis Yoga studio and the Lanta Yoga studio are the most established. The relaxed, unhurried atmosphere of Klong Nin makes it the ideal base for a wellness retreat.
Klong Nin has the best beach bar scene on Koh Lanta — a string of atmospheric, low-key beach bars along the sand serving cold beers, fresh cocktails and simple Thai food, with fire shows, live music and a genuinely free-spirited atmosphere. The Drunken Sailors bar and the Same Same But Different bar are the most popular. The sunset at Klong Nin, watched from a beach bar with a cold drink, is one of the finest experiences on the island.
The Lanta Pura Beach Resort is the finest resort on Klong Nin Beach — a stylish, contemporary resort with beautiful pool villas, a beachfront infinity pool, an excellent restaurant and a genuinely peaceful atmosphere. The resort is the best mid-range to luxury option on Klong Nin and is popular with couples. The beach access is excellent and the sunset views from the pool are extraordinary.
Klong Nin has an excellent and very affordable dining scene — a mix of simple Thai beach restaurants, seafood barbecues and more creative international restaurants along the beach road. The fresh seafood is exceptional — grilled fish, tiger prawns and crab at very low prices. The Klong Nin restaurants are significantly more affordable than the restaurants of Long Beach and Kantiang Bay.
Klong Nin is a good base for snorkelling and diving day trips — the dive centres on the beach road offer trips to Koh Rok, Koh Haa and Hin Daeng/Hin Muang (some of the finest dive sites in Thailand). The snorkelling directly off Klong Nin Beach is reasonable, with rocky outcrops at the southern end of the beach providing good reef fish habitat.
The Koh Lanta National Park is at the southern tip of the island, 20 minutes from Klong Nin — a beautiful area of jungle, mangroves and coral reefs with a lighthouse, a cave system and excellent snorkelling. The park is the most scenic part of Koh Lanta and the lighthouse viewpoint has the finest panoramic views on the island. The park entrance fee is 200 baht.
Klong Nin is 20 minutes from the Saladan ferry pier by songthaew or motorbike taxi. Motorbike hire (from 200 baht per day) is the most convenient way to explore the island from Klong Nin. The beach road has a good selection of shops, restaurants and ATMs. November to April is the best time to visit. The beach can be rough during the wet season (May to October).
