The Beach
Klong Khong Beach is a long, pleasant stretch of golden sand between Long Beach and Klong Nin — the beach is wide, the water is clear and the atmosphere is the most social and lively on Koh Lanta. The beach faces west and has good sunset views. The surf is moderate — better for bodyboarding than for young children. The beach is backed by a string of bungalows, restaurants and beach bars rather than large resort complexes.
Fire Show Bars
Klong Khong has the best fire show bars on Koh Lanta — several beach bars put on nightly fire shows with fire poi, fire staff and fire breathing, accompanied by reggae and electronic music and a lively, social atmosphere. The fire shows are a Koh Lanta institution and are the most entertaining evening entertainment on the island. The Opium Bar and the Same Same But Different bar are the most popular.
Budget Accommodation
Klong Khong has the best selection of budget accommodation on Koh Lanta — a string of simple but charming bungalow operations and guesthouses directly on or near the beach, ranging from basic fan bungalows to comfortable air-conditioned rooms with hot water. The Lanta Coral Beach Resort and the Bee Bee Bungalows are among the most popular. Prices are significantly lower than Long Beach and Kantiang Bay.
Beach Restaurants
Klong Khong has an excellent and very affordable dining scene — a string of casual Thai beach restaurants and seafood barbecues along the beach road serving fresh fish, Thai curries and Western food at very low prices. The beach restaurants are the most affordable on Koh Lanta and the atmosphere is relaxed and social. The fresh seafood barbecue at sunset is a Klong Khong highlight.

Klong Khong has the most social and friendly atmosphere on Koh Lanta — the beach is popular with younger independent travellers, backpackers and budget-conscious couples, and the beach bars and restaurants have a genuinely convivial, easy-going atmosphere. It is easy to meet other travellers at Klong Khong and the beach has a strong community feel during the high season.
Water Sports
Klong Khong has good water sports facilities — kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling are available from the beach. Several operators offer snorkelling and diving day trips to Koh Rok, Koh Haa and Hin Daeng/Hin Muang. The snorkelling directly off the beach is reasonable, with rocky outcrops at the ends of the beach providing good reef fish habitat.
Island Exploration
Klong Khong is well-positioned for exploring the whole of Koh Lanta — Long Beach is 10 minutes north, Klong Nin is 10 minutes south, and Kantiang Bay and the national park are 25 minutes south. Motorbike hire (from 200 baht per day) is the most convenient way to explore the island from Klong Khong. The Old Town Lanta is 20 minutes north by motorbike.
Practical Tips
Klong Khong is 15 minutes from the Saladan ferry pier by songthaew or motorbike taxi. The beach road has a good selection of shops, restaurants and ATMs. Motorbike hire is available from several shops on the beach road. November to April is the best time to visit. The beach can be rough during the wet season (May to October) and many budget bungalows close during this period.
