Diving
Koh Lanta is one of the finest diving destinations in Thailand and Long Beach is the most convenient base — several dive centres operate from the beach road offering day trips to the best dive sites around Koh Lanta, including Hin Daeng and Hin Muang (two of the finest dive sites in Southeast Asia, with whale shark sightings). The diving season runs from November to April.
Practical Tips
Long Beach is 10 minutes from the Saladan ferry pier (the main arrival point on Koh Lanta). Taxis, songthaews and motorbike hire are available from the pier. The beach road has a good selection of shops, pharmacies and ATMs. November to April is the best time to visit — the sea is calm and the weather is dry and sunny. May to October is the wet season with rougher seas and some resort closures.
