Top 8 Things To Do in Kantiang Bay

The perfect horseshoe bay, the legendary Pimalai Resort, crystal-clear water and the finest sunsets on Koh Lanta that make Kantiang Bay the most romantic destination on the island.

01

The Bay

Kantiang Bay is the most dramatic and beautiful bay on Koh Lanta — a perfect horseshoe of golden sand framed by steep, jungle-covered headlands that shelter the bay from the wind and create an extraordinarily peaceful atmosphere. The water is crystal-clear and turquoise, the sand is fine and golden, and the bay is never crowded. The sunsets at Kantiang Bay, with the headlands silhouetted against the orange sky, are the finest on Koh Lanta.

02

Pimalai Resort & Spa

The Pimalai Resort & Spa is one of the finest beach resorts in Thailand — a beautiful, low-rise resort set on a private hillside above Kantiang Bay, with 121 rooms, suites and pool villas, two infinity pools, an extraordinary spa, three restaurants and direct beach access. The resort is the finest on Koh Lanta and one of the most romantic in Southeast Asia. The pool villas with private plunge pools are exceptional.

03

Seclusion & Romance

Kantiang Bay is the most secluded and romantic destination on Koh Lanta — the bay is at the southern end of the island, away from the main tourist areas, and has a genuinely peaceful and unhurried atmosphere. The small village at the back of the bay has a handful of excellent restaurants, dive shops and massage parlours but no large commercial development. It is the ideal destination for a honeymoon or romantic escape.

04

Diving & Snorkelling

Kantiang Bay is one of the best bases for diving on Koh Lanta — the bay is close to the finest dive sites in the Andaman, including Hin Daeng and Hin Muang (two of the top ten dive sites in Southeast Asia, with regular whale shark and manta ray sightings). The Scubafish dive centre at Kantiang Bay is excellent. The snorkelling directly in the bay is good, with healthy coral at the base of the headlands.

05

Koh Lanta National Park

The Koh Lanta National Park is 10 minutes from Kantiang Bay — a beautiful area of jungle, mangroves and coral reefs at the southern tip of the island, with a lighthouse, caves and excellent snorkelling. The park is the most scenic part of Koh Lanta and the lighthouse viewpoint has the finest panoramic views on the island. Kantiang Bay is the best base for exploring the national park.

06

Sunsets

The sunsets at Kantiang Bay are the finest on Koh Lanta — the perfect horseshoe bay faces directly west, and the jungle-covered headlands frame the sunset in an extraordinary way. The Pimalai Resort's infinity pool is the finest place to watch the sunset on the island. The beach restaurants at Kantiang Bay are also excellent sunset spots, with cold drinks and fresh seafood as the sun drops into the Andaman Sea.

07

Village Dining

The small village at Kantiang Bay has an excellent selection of restaurants — simple Thai beach restaurants serving fresh seafood, Thai curries and Western food at very affordable prices. The Had Kantiang restaurant is the most popular, with excellent fresh fish and a beautiful beachfront location. The village restaurants are significantly more affordable than the Pimalai Resort restaurants and are a pleasant evening option for resort guests.

08

Practical Tips

Kantiang Bay is 35 minutes from the Saladan ferry pier by songthaew or taxi. The road to Kantiang Bay is winding but well-surfaced. Motorbike hire is the most convenient way to explore the island. The Pimalai Resort offers a shuttle service to Saladan. November to April is the best time to visit — the bay is sheltered and the water is calm. The bay can be rough during the wet season (May to October).
