Hua Hin Beach is one of the finest beaches on the Gulf of Thailand — a long, wide stretch of golden sand running for several kilometres through the heart of the resort, with calm, warm water, gentle surf and a sophisticated, unhurried atmosphere. The beach is significantly less crowded than the beaches of Phuket or Koh Samui and retains a genuine elegance. The northern end of the beach, fronting the Centara Grand, is the most beautiful and well-maintained section.
The Centara Grand Beach Resort Hua Hin is the most iconic hotel in Thailand — a magnificent colonial-style railway hotel built in 1923, with beautiful gardens, a legendary pool complex (the Railway Pool, one of the most photographed in Asia), six restaurants, a world-class spa and direct beach access. The hotel is a Thai national treasure and staying here is one of the finest hotel experiences in Southeast Asia. The Sunday brunch is legendary.
The Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort is the most contemporary luxury hotel on Hua Hin Beach — a beautifully designed beachfront resort with 187 rooms and suites, an extraordinary beachfront pool, excellent restaurants and a spa. The hotel is the finest modern luxury option on the beach and is popular with families and couples seeking a more contemporary alternative to the historic Centara Grand.
Horse riding on Hua Hin Beach is one of the most iconic and atmospheric experiences in Thailand — a tradition that dates back to the royal family's use of Hua Hin as a summer retreat. Several operators on the beach offer horse rides along the sand, particularly at sunset when the light is golden and the atmosphere is magical. It is one of the most memorable experiences available on any beach in Thailand.
Hua Hin Beach has an excellent beachfront dining scene — the Suan Bua restaurant at the Centara Grand, the Sala Thai restaurant at the Anantara and the beachfront seafood restaurants along the beach road are all excellent. The Hua Hin night market (a short walk from the beach) is the best street food market in the area, with excellent fresh seafood, Thai curries and grilled meats at very affordable prices.
Hua Hin has the finest night markets in Thailand outside Bangkok — the Cicada Market (open Friday to Sunday evenings) is an upscale arts and crafts market with excellent food stalls, live music and a sophisticated atmosphere. The Hua Hin Night Market on Dechanuchit Road is the most popular street food market. The Hua Hin Market Village and the Bluport shopping mall are the main daytime shopping destinations.
Hua Hin Beach has good water sports facilities — kitesurfing (Hua Hin is one of the best kitesurfing destinations in Thailand, with consistent winds from November to March), windsurfing, kayaking and paddleboarding are all available. The Hua Hin Golf Club and the Black Mountain Golf Club are two of the finest golf courses in Thailand and are a major draw for visitors.
Hua Hin is 3 hours south of Bangkok by road (or 4 hours by train). Direct minibuses from Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport take approximately 3.5 hours. The beach is in the heart of the resort and is walkable from all the main hotels. November to April is the best time to visit — the Gulf of Thailand is calm and the weather is dry and sunny. The wet season (May to October) brings occasional heavy rain but the beach is still pleasant.
