Top 8 Things To Do in Pakarang Beach

The coral reef directly off the beach, extraordinary snorkelling, pristine natural landscape and the La Flora Resort that make Pakarang the finest beach for snorkellers in Khao Lak.

01

The Beach

Pakarang Beach (Coral Beach) is the most pristine and natural beach in Khao Lak — a wide, wild stretch of golden sand at the northern end of the resort area, backed by casuarina trees and jungle with virtually no commercial development. The beach is significantly less visited than Bang Niang and Nang Thong and has an extraordinary sense of seclusion and natural beauty. The water is crystal-clear and the coral reef begins just metres from the shore.

02

Snorkelling

Pakarang Beach has the finest snorkelling in Khao Lak accessible directly from the beach — the coral reef begins just 20–30 metres from the shore, with excellent visibility (often 10–15 metres), a wide variety of reef fish, sea turtles and occasional reef sharks. The snorkelling is accessible without a boat trip, making it the most convenient and rewarding beach snorkelling in the Khao Lak area. Snorkelling equipment is available from the La Flora Resort.

03

La Flora Resort & Spa

The La Flora Resort & Spa is the finest resort on Pakarang Beach — a beautiful, contemporary resort with 116 rooms and pool villas, a beachfront infinity pool, an excellent spa and a restaurant. The resort is set directly on the beach and has exceptional snorkelling access. It is the best mid-range to luxury option on Pakarang Beach and is popular with couples and snorkelling enthusiasts. The pool villas with direct beach access are excellent.

04

Natural Landscape

Pakarang Beach has the most pristine and natural landscape of any beach in Khao Lak — the beach is backed by casuarina trees and jungle rather than resort complexes, and the surrounding area is largely national park. The beach is home to a variety of coastal birds and the jungle behind the beach has hornbills, monitor lizards and macaque monkeys. The natural landscape is the finest in the Khao Lak area.

05

Similan & Surin Islands

Pakarang Beach is the northernmost beach in the Khao Lak area and is the closest to both the Similan Islands and the Surin Islands — the finest dive and snorkelling destinations in Thailand. Day trips and liveaboard diving trips to both island groups depart from the Khao Lak area. The La Flora Resort can arrange diving and snorkelling excursions. The Surin Islands (home to whale sharks and manta rays) are particularly accessible from Pakarang.

06

National Park

Pakarang Beach is surrounded by the Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park — the park boundary is immediately adjacent to the beach and the jungle trails begin just metres from the sand. The park has excellent hiking trails, waterfalls and wildlife. The Ton Chong Fa waterfall is the most popular destination in the park and is accessible by a 2km trail from the park entrance near Nang Thong Beach.

07

Sunsets & Scenery

Pakarang Beach has the most dramatic and unspoilt sunset scenery in Khao Lak — the wild, undeveloped beach faces directly west and the casuarina trees and jungle headlands frame the sunset in a beautiful way. The beach is never crowded at sunset and the atmosphere is extraordinarily peaceful. The coral reef is visible through the clear water in the foreground as the sun drops into the Andaman Sea.

08

Practical Tips

Pakarang Beach is 90km north of Phuket Airport — approximately 2 hours by taxi or minibus. The La Flora Resort offers airport transfers. The beach has limited facilities beyond the resort — bring snorkelling equipment, sun protection and water. November to April is the best time to visit — the sea is calm and the snorkelling visibility is at its best. The beach can be rough during the wet season (May to October).
