Candolim beach is one of the most pleasant in North Goa — a long, wide stretch of golden sand with calm water, a relaxed atmosphere and a good selection of beach shacks and restaurants. The beach is less crowded than Calangute and Baga and has a more upmarket character.
Fort Aguada is the finest Portuguese fort in Goa — a massive 17th-century fort on the headland at the southern end of Candolim beach, with extraordinary views of the Arabian Sea and the Mandovi River estuary. The fort has a famous lighthouse (the oldest in Asia) and is one of the most impressive historical sites in Goa.
Candolim has the finest luxury resorts in North Goa — the Taj Exotica, the Vivanta by Taj and several other upmarket properties. The resorts offer excellent facilities, beautiful pools and direct beach access. The combination of luxury accommodation and a relaxed beach atmosphere makes Candolim the best upmarket choice in North Goa.
Sunset cruises on the Mandovi River are one of the most popular activities in Goa — traditional boats with Goan music, dancing and food sailing along the river at sunset. The cruises depart from Panaji (20 minutes from Candolim) and are an excellent way to experience Goan culture.
Sinquerim beach, at the southern end of Candolim, is the most beautiful and least crowded beach in the area — a small, sheltered cove at the foot of Fort Aguada with calm water and a relaxed atmosphere. The Taj Exotica resort is on Sinquerim beach.
Candolim has an excellent selection of restaurants — from beach shacks serving fresh seafood to upmarket restaurants serving Goan, Indian and international cuisine. The food is excellent and the prices are slightly higher than Calangute and Baga, reflecting the more upmarket character of the area.
Old Goa, 15 minutes from Candolim, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the most extraordinary collection of Portuguese colonial churches in Asia — the Basilica of Bom Jesus (housing the remains of St Francis Xavier), the Se Cathedral and the Church of St Francis of Assisi are all exceptional.
Candolim has good shopping — boutiques, handicraft shops and the nearby Calangute market are all within easy reach. The Saturday Night Market at Arpora (15 minutes away) is the finest market in Goa.
