Baga beach is the most famous in Goa — a long stretch of golden sand with calm water at the northern end and good surf at the southern end. The beach is lined with beach shacks serving fresh seafood, cold Kingfisher beer and the extraordinary variety of Goan cuisine. The atmosphere is lively and international.
Tito's is the most famous nightclub in Goa — a legendary venue on Baga Road that has been the centre of Goa's nightlife for over 40 years. The club has multiple floors, a rooftop bar and hosts international DJs. The nightlife at Baga and Calangute is the most vibrant in Goa.
Calangute and Baga are the water sports hub of Goa — jet skiing, parasailing, banana boat rides, windsurfing and kitesurfing are all available. The water sports operators are concentrated at the northern end of Calangute beach and at Baga. The conditions are good from November to March.
The Calangute market and the Saturday Night Market at Arpora (20 minutes away) are the best shopping in North Goa — handicrafts, textiles, jewellery, spices and the extraordinary variety of Indian goods. The Saturday Night Market is the most atmospheric market in Goa, with live music, food stalls and hundreds of vendors.
Calangute and Baga have the finest selection of beach shacks and restaurants in Goa — from simple beach shacks serving grilled fish and cold beer to upmarket restaurants serving Goan seafood curry, prawn balchão and the extraordinary variety of Goan cuisine. The food is excellent and very affordable.
The Baga River, at the northern end of Baga beach, is a beautiful and atmospheric spot — a small river flowing into the sea, with fishing boats, mangroves and a bridge. The river is particularly beautiful at sunset. The restaurants on the river bank are excellent.
Anjuna, 5km from Baga, is the most famous flea market destination in Goa — the Wednesday Flea Market at Anjuna is the most celebrated in India, with hundreds of vendors selling handicrafts, clothing, jewellery and antiques. The market has been running since the 1970s and is a Goa institution.
Boat trips from Baga to the offshore islands and dolphin watching excursions are excellent. Spinner dolphins are frequently seen in the waters off North Goa. The boat trips to Grand Island for snorkelling and diving are also popular.
