Top 8 Things To Do in Sharm El Sheikh

The Ras Mohammed reefs, Thistlegorm wreck, Naama Bay and extraordinary marine life that make Sharm El Sheikh the finest diving resort in the Red Sea.

01

Ras Mohammed National Park

Ras Mohammed National Park is the finest diving destination in Egypt — a protected marine park at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula with extraordinary coral walls, abundant marine life and exceptional visibility. The Shark Reef and Yolanda Reef are the most famous dive sites, with large schools of fish, reef sharks, turtles and spectacular coral formations. It is one of the top ten dive sites in the world.

02

SS Thistlegorm Wreck

The SS Thistlegorm is one of the most famous wreck dives in the world — a British WWII supply ship sunk by German bombers in 1941, lying in 30 metres of water in the Red Sea. The wreck is extraordinarily intact and still contains its original cargo: motorcycles, trucks, rifles, ammunition and railway carriages. Jacques Cousteau discovered the wreck in 1955 and called it the greatest dive site in the world.

03

Naama Bay

Naama Bay is the heart of Sharm El Sheikh — a lively, cosmopolitan bay with a long promenade of restaurants, bars, dive centres, shops and hotels. The bay has a pleasant sandy beach and calm, clear water ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The nightlife is the most vibrant in the Egyptian Red Sea. The Hard Rock Cafe, Camel Bar and Pacha nightclub are among the most popular venues.

04

Shark Bay

Shark Bay is one of the most popular snorkelling and diving sites near Sharm El Sheikh — a beautiful bay with a healthy coral reef, white-tip reef sharks, turtles and abundant tropical fish. The snorkelling directly from the beach is excellent. The bay is a short taxi ride from Naama Bay and is one of the best spots in Sharm for non-divers.

05

Luxury Resorts

Sharm El Sheikh has some of the finest luxury resorts in Egypt — the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh, the Ritz-Carlton Sharm El Sheikh and the Hyatt Regency Sharm El Sheikh are all exceptional. The resorts have private beaches, multiple pools, world-class spa facilities and direct access to the coral reefs. Travelpack and JTA Holidays have excellent all-inclusive packages.

06

Dahab Day Trip

Dahab is a relaxed, bohemian resort 90km north of Sharm El Sheikh — famous for the Blue Hole (one of the most famous dive sites in the world), the Canyon dive site and a laid-back atmosphere very different from Sharm. The Blue Hole is a 130-metre-deep underwater sinkhole with extraordinary diving. Day trips from Sharm are available and the drive through the Sinai desert is spectacular.

07

St Catherine's Monastery

St Catherine's Monastery is one of the oldest Christian monasteries in the world — a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the foot of Mount Sinai, 3 hours from Sharm El Sheikh. The monastery has an extraordinary library of ancient manuscripts and icons. The climb to the summit of Mount Sinai (2,285m) for sunrise is one of the most spiritual experiences in the Middle East.
