Top 8 Things To Do in Hurghada

The coral reefs, Giftun Island, all-inclusive resorts and year-round sunshine that make Hurghada the most popular Red Sea holiday destination.

01

Diving & Snorkelling

Hurghada has world-class diving and snorkelling — the Red Sea coral reefs are among the most diverse and colourful in the world, with extraordinary visibility, abundant marine life and a wide range of dive sites from shallow reefs to dramatic walls and wrecks. The Abu Nuhas wreck site (four wrecks in one location) is one of the finest wreck diving destinations in the Red Sea.

02

Giftun Island

Giftun Island is the most popular day trip from Hurghada — a beautiful uninhabited island in the Giftun Archipelago National Park with pristine white sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water and excellent snorkelling on the surrounding reefs. Day trips by boat depart from the Hurghada marina every morning. The island is one of the most beautiful spots in the Egyptian Red Sea.

03

All-Inclusive Resorts

Hurghada has the finest selection of all-inclusive resorts in Egypt — from budget-friendly three-star hotels to luxurious five-star resorts with private beaches, multiple pools, water parks and extensive entertainment programmes. The Steigenberger Al Dau Beach, the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh and the Rixos Premium Magawish are among the finest. Travelpack and JTA Holidays have excellent packages.

04

Year-Round Sunshine

Hurghada has one of the finest climates in the world — over 300 days of sunshine per year, virtually no rain and warm temperatures year-round. The winter months (November to March) are pleasantly warm (22–27°C) and ideal for beach holidays and diving. The summer months are very hot (35–40°C) but the sea is warm and the all-inclusive resorts are excellent value.

05

Water Sports

Hurghada is one of the best water sports destinations in the Red Sea — kitesurfing, windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, glass-bottom boat trips and submarine tours are all available. The consistent winds make Hurghada particularly good for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The calm, clear water is ideal for beginners and experienced water sports enthusiasts alike.

06

Dolphin House

Dolphin House (Sha'ab El Erg) is one of the most popular snorkelling sites near Hurghada — a shallow reef where a pod of spinner dolphins regularly rests during the day. Snorkelling with wild dolphins in their natural habitat is an extraordinary experience. Day trips to Dolphin House depart from the Hurghada marina and are available from most hotels.

07

Day Trips

Hurghada is an excellent base for day trips — Luxor (3 hours by road or 30 minutes by air) has the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple. Cairo (6 hours by road or 1 hour by air) has the Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum. Day trips to both cities are available from all hotels and are a popular addition to a beach holiday.

08

Practical Tips

Hurghada is one of the most straightforward Egyptian destinations for first-time visitors — the resort is well-developed, English is widely spoken and the all-inclusive hotels provide everything needed for a beach holiday. The El Gouna resort (30 minutes north) is a more upmarket alternative. The Hurghada Grand Aquarium is excellent for families.
