Siam is the beating commercial heart of Bangkok — the intersection of the BTS Skytrain lines, home to the most spectacular shopping malls in Southeast Asia. Siam Paragon, MBK, CentralWorld and Siam Center are all within walking distance of each other, making this the most concentrated shopping district in Thailand.
The Erawan Shrine, at the corner of Ratchadamri Road, is one of Bangkok's most sacred and atmospheric sites — a golden shrine to Brahma surrounded by offerings and traditional dancers. The Sea Life Bangkok Aquarium (in Siam Paragon) is the largest in Southeast Asia.
Pratunam, just north of Siam, is the wholesale fashion district — the Platinum Fashion Mall has six floors of affordable Thai fashion, and the street food around the Pratunam Market is excellent.
Siam BTS station is the interchange between the Sukhumvit and Silom lines — the most convenient location in Bangkok for getting around the city.

Siam Paragon is Bangkok's most spectacular shopping mall — a vast, gleaming complex with luxury brands (Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Ferrari), the Sea Life Bangkok Aquarium (the largest in Southeast Asia), a multiplex cinema, a bowling alley and some of the finest restaurants in Bangkok. The food hall in the basement is extraordinary — hundreds of stalls serving Thai and international food.
MBK Center is Bangkok's most famous bargain mall — a seven-storey labyrinth of over 2,000 shops selling electronics, clothing, accessories, mobile phones, souvenirs and street food at prices far below the luxury malls. The electronics floor is excellent for cameras, phones and accessories. Bargaining is expected. MBK is an essential Bangkok experience.
CentralWorld is the largest shopping mall in Thailand and one of the largest in the world — a vast complex with over 500 shops, 100 restaurants, a hotel and a convention centre. The Groove outdoor area has excellent restaurants and bars. The New Year's Eve countdown at CentralWorld is one of Bangkok's biggest events, with hundreds of thousands of people gathering in the plaza.
The Erawan Shrine, at the corner of Ratchadamri and Ploenchit Roads, is one of Bangkok's most sacred and atmospheric sites — a golden shrine to the Hindu god Brahma, surrounded by offerings of flowers, incense and wooden elephants. Traditional Thai dancers perform at the shrine throughout the day. The shrine is believed to bring good luck and is visited by thousands of Thais and tourists daily.
Pratunam Market is Bangkok's most extraordinary street food and wholesale fashion district — a dense, chaotic market of clothing stalls, street food vendors and wholesale fashion shops. The Platinum Fashion Mall (adjacent) has six floors of affordable Thai fashion. The street food around the market — particularly the boat noodles and the grilled pork skewers — is excellent.
Siam BTS station is the interchange between the Sukhumvit and Silom lines — the most important junction in Bangkok's Skytrain network. From Siam, you can reach Sukhumvit (east), Silom (south), Mo Chit (north, for Chatuchak Market) and Saphan Taksin (south, for the Chao Phraya river) without changing trains. It is the most convenient location in Bangkok for getting around.
Sea Life Bangkok Aquarium, in the basement of Siam Paragon, is the largest aquarium in Southeast Asia — a spectacular underwater world with sharks, rays, sea turtles, penguins and thousands of fish. The glass tunnel walkway through the shark tank is extraordinary. Excellent for families and a welcome escape from the Bangkok heat.
Siam Square, across from Siam Paragon, is Bangkok's youth culture hub — a grid of streets filled with independent fashion boutiques, cafes, street food stalls and entertainment venues. The area is particularly lively on weekends, when young Bangkokians come to shop, eat and socialise. The Siam Square One mall has excellent street food and independent shops.
