Silom & Sathorn Holiday Guide

Silom and Sathorn form Bangkok's business and financial district — a dense cluster of skyscrapers, luxury hotels and world-class rooftop bars. The Sky Bar at Lebua (The Hangover II) and Vertigo at the Banyan Tree are the finest rooftop bars in Bangkok, with extraordinary views over the city and the Chao Phraya river.

Lumphini Park is on the doorstep — Bangkok's most beautiful urban park, with lakes, lawns and giant monitor lizards. The Patpong Night Market is one of Bangkok's most atmospheric evening experiences.

The Mandarin Oriental, on the Chao Phraya riverfront, is one of the great hotels of Asia — the Authors' Lounge afternoon tea is a Bangkok institution. The Peninsula and Capella are equally extraordinary.

Silom is served by the BTS Skytrain (Sala Daeng and Chong Nonsi stations) and the MRT (Silom and Lumphini stations), making it easy to reach all parts of the city.

The best time to visit Bangkok is November to February. We search across Travelpack, Emirates Holidays and JTA Holidays for the best deals, with the FIBI discount applied automatically.

Top 8 Things To Do in Silom & Sathorn

The rooftop bars, parks and experiences that make Silom and Sathorn Bangkok's most sophisticated and rewarding district.

01

Sky Bar at Lebua — The Hangover II Bar

The Sky Bar at Lebua State Tower is the most famous rooftop bar in the world — the open-air bar on the 63rd floor where The Hangover II was filmed, with extraordinary 360-degree views over Bangkok and the Chao Phraya river. The Sirocco restaurant above it is one of Bangkok's finest. Dress code applies (no shorts or flip-flops). Arrive at sunset for the best experience.

02

Vertigo & Moon Bar — Banyan Tree

Vertigo and Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Hotel (61st floor) are among Bangkok's finest rooftop experiences — an open-air restaurant and bar with extraordinary views in every direction. The Moon Bar is one of the highest open-air bars in Bangkok. The cocktails are excellent and the sunset views are extraordinary. Reservations recommended.

03

Lumphini Park

Lumphini Park is Bangkok's most beautiful urban park — 142 acres of lakes, lawns and tree-lined paths in the heart of the city, a short walk from Silom. The park is at its best in the early morning, when Bangkok residents exercise, practise tai chi and feed the giant monitor lizards that live in the lake. Paddle boats are available on the lake. A peaceful escape from the city's intensity.

04

Patpong Night Market

Patpong Night Market, on the famous Patpong Road between Silom and Surawong, is one of Bangkok's most atmospheric night markets — a dense, lively market selling clothing, souvenirs, electronics and street food, surrounded by the bars and clubs of Bangkok's most famous entertainment district. The market runs every evening from approximately 6pm.

05

Silom Dining

Silom has excellent dining — from the Michelin-starred Nahm (modern Thai cuisine at the Como Metropolitan Hotel, one of the finest restaurants in Bangkok) to the extraordinary street food of Silom Soi 20 and the excellent Indian restaurants of the 'Little India' area around Silom Soi 11. The food court at Silom Complex is excellent for affordable Thai food.

06

Wat Yannawa

Wat Yannawa, on the Chao Phraya riverfront near Sathorn, is one of Bangkok's most unusual temples — built in the shape of a Chinese junk (sailing ship) by King Rama III in the 19th century. The temple is less visited than the Grand Palace temples but is atmospheric and interesting. The riverside location makes it a pleasant stop on a Chao Phraya boat trip.

07

Bangkok Jazz & Live Music

Silom and Sathorn have some of Bangkok's finest jazz and live music venues. The Saxophone Pub (near Victory Monument) is Bangkok's most famous jazz venue. The Brown Sugar Jazz Boutique is excellent. The rooftop bars of Sathorn regularly host live music events. The area has a more sophisticated and less frenetic nightlife scene than Sukhumvit.

08

Luxury Business Hotels

Silom and Sathorn have some of Bangkok's finest luxury hotels. The Mandarin Oriental (on the Chao Phraya riverfront, one of the great hotels of Asia), the Peninsula, the Capella, the Banyan Tree and the Como Metropolitan are all exceptional. The Mandarin Oriental's Authors' Lounge afternoon tea is a Bangkok institution.
