The Katara Mosque is the most beautiful building in Qatar — a magnificent contemporary mosque with a stunning golden dome, intricate blue tilework and a beautifully proportioned minaret. The mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors outside prayer times and is the most photographed building in Doha. The interior is extraordinary — the golden dome is decorated with intricate geometric patterns and the prayer hall is one of the most beautiful in the Gulf.
The Katara Amphitheatre is the finest outdoor performance venue in Qatar — a beautiful 5,000-seat amphitheatre modelled on the ancient Greek theatres of the Mediterranean, used for world-class concerts, opera performances, film screenings and cultural events throughout the year. The amphitheatre has hosted performances by some of the world's finest orchestras and opera companies and is the centrepiece of Qatar's cultural calendar.
Katara Cultural Village is an extraordinary architectural achievement — a vast complex of buildings in a variety of styles (traditional Islamic, contemporary, Mediterranean) set around a beautiful central plaza and waterfront. The art galleries within Katara host rotating exhibitions of Qatari and international art and are among the finest gallery spaces in the Gulf. The public art installations throughout the village are excellent.
Katara Beach is the finest public beach in Doha — a beautiful stretch of sand with calm, warm water, excellent facilities (sunbeds, showers, changing rooms) and a pleasant, family-friendly atmosphere. The beach is significantly better maintained and more pleasant than the other public beaches of Doha. The beach is open to all visitors and is free to access. The Katara Beach Club has excellent food and drink facilities.
Katara Cultural Village has an excellent and diverse restaurant scene — a mix of Qatari, Lebanese, Turkish, Italian and international restaurants set in beautifully designed buildings around the central plaza and waterfront. The Parisa restaurant (Persian cuisine in a stunning setting) and the Damasca One restaurant are among the most popular. The outdoor terraces overlooking the waterfront are the finest dining settings in the area.
Katara Hills is the luxury hotel complex within Katara Cultural Village — a collection of boutique hotels and residences set on the hillside above the village, with extraordinary views over the Gulf and the Doha skyline. The Katara Hospitality properties within the complex are among the most distinctive and atmospheric hotels in Qatar. The location within the cultural village is unique and the views are the finest in Doha.
Katara Cultural Village hosts the most impressive programme of cultural events in Qatar — the Katara International Hunting and Falconry Festival, the Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, the Doha Film Institute screenings, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra concerts and a year-round programme of art exhibitions, theatre performances and cultural festivals. The events programme is the finest in the Gulf and is a major reason to visit Doha.
Katara Cultural Village is 10 minutes from West Bay by taxi. The village is open daily and entry is free. The mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors outside prayer times — dress modestly (abayas are available at the entrance for women). The beach is open daily and is free to access. October to April is the best time to visit. The village is busiest on Thursday and Friday evenings (the Qatari weekend).
