Qatar Holiday Guide

Qatar is one of the world's most remarkable stories of transformation. In just a few decades, this small peninsula has built world-class museums, extraordinary hotels and one of the most dramatic skylines in the Gulf — all while hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which put Qatar firmly on the global tourism map.

Doha is the heart of the Qatar experience. The West Bay skyline, reflected in the waters of Doha Bay, is genuinely dramatic — a cluster of extraordinary towers that rivals any city in the world. The Corniche, which curves around the bay for 7km, is one of the most pleasant waterfront promenades in the Gulf.

The Museum of Islamic Art, designed by I.M. Pei and completed in 2008, is one of the world's great museums. It sits on a purpose-built island in Doha Bay and houses a collection spanning 1,400 years of Islamic art from Spain to Central Asia. The building itself is a masterpiece. The National Museum of Qatar, designed by Jean Nouvel in the shape of a desert rose, tells Qatar's story from ancient times to the present day.

Souq Waqif is Doha's most atmospheric destination — a restored traditional market where you can buy spices, falcons, traditional clothing and excellent food. The narrow lanes and mud-brick architecture feel genuinely authentic, and the restaurants serving traditional Qatari cuisine are excellent.

The Pearl-Qatar is a stunning man-made island development with luxury apartments, designer boutiques and excellent restaurants around a beautiful marina. It is the most glamorous address in Doha and a perfect place to spend an afternoon or evening.

Qatar is an excellent stopover destination — Qatar Airways' hub at Hamad International Airport makes it easy to add a few nights in Doha to a longer journey. The best time to visit is November to March. We search across Travelpack, Emirates Holidays and JTA Holidays for the best deals, with the FIBI discount applied automatically.

Top 8 Things To Do in Qatar

The museums, souqs and skylines that make Doha one of the Gulf's most culturally rich and rewarding destinations.

01

Museum of Islamic Art

One of the world's great museums, designed by I.M. Pei on a purpose-built island in Doha Bay. The collection spans 1,400 years of Islamic art and civilisation across three continents.

02

Souq Waqif

Doha's most atmospheric destination — a labyrinth of narrow lanes filled with spices, falcons, traditional clothing and excellent restaurants. The restored mud-brick architecture is beautiful.

03

The Pearl-Qatar

A stunning man-made island with luxury apartments, designer boutiques, excellent restaurants and a beautiful marina. Porto Arabia and Medina Centrale are the most vibrant areas.

Jean Nouvel's extraordinary desert rose-inspired building houses Qatar's national story — from ancient pearling traditions to the modern state. One of the most architecturally striking museums in the world.

07

World-Class Dining

Doha's food scene is outstanding. From traditional Qatari cuisine at Souq Waqif to Nobu, Zuma and Gordon Ramsay restaurants in the luxury hotels. The city has more Michelin-quality restaurants per capita than almost anywhere in the Gulf.
