The Chao Fa Night Market is the finest night market in Krabi — a lively evening market along the Krabi River waterfront with excellent street food, fresh seafood, clothing, handicrafts and a wonderful local atmosphere. The market runs every evening and is the best place in Krabi for authentic Thai food at very low prices. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is exceptional.
The Tiger Cave Temple is the most famous landmark in Krabi — a Buddhist temple complex built into a series of limestone caves, with a famous 1,237-step staircase leading to a golden Buddha statue at the summit with panoramic views of the Krabi region. The climb is challenging (approximately 45 minutes) but the views from the top are extraordinary. The caves themselves are fascinating.
The mangrove forests around Krabi Town are among the finest in Thailand — a beautiful, dense network of mangrove trees lining the Krabi River and the surrounding tidal channels. Kayaking through the mangroves is one of the most peaceful and beautiful experiences in Krabi. Several operators offer guided mangrove kayaking tours from the town.
The Krabi River waterfront is the most pleasant area in Krabi Town — a riverside promenade with restaurants, cafes and bars overlooking the river and the limestone karst hills beyond. The waterfront is particularly beautiful in the early morning and evening. The long-tail boat pier is the departure point for boats to Railay Beach (45 minutes) and Koh Lanta.
Krabi Town has the best street food in the Krabi region — a wide range of authentic Thai dishes available from street stalls, coffee shops and local restaurants throughout the town. The morning market (Talat Kao) is excellent for breakfast. The quality is significantly better and more authentic than in the resort areas, and the prices are much lower.
Krabi Town has several interesting Chinese temples — the Jao Mae Kuan Im Shrine and the Krabi City Pillar Shrine are both worth visiting. The Chinese community has been present in Krabi for generations and the temples are a fascinating insight into the Chinese-Thai cultural heritage of the region.
Krabi Town is the main transport hub for the region — ferries to Koh Lanta (1.5 hours), Koh Phi Phi (1.5 hours) and Phuket (2.5 hours) depart from the town pier. Minibuses to Ao Nang (30 minutes) run regularly. The town is the most convenient base for those who want to explore multiple destinations in the Krabi region.
Krabi Town has the most affordable accommodation in the Krabi region — a wide range of guesthouses, boutique hotels and budget hostels. The Vogue Resort & Spa and the Maritime Park & Spa Resort are among the finest.
