Koh Jum has some of the most pristine and uncrowded beaches in the Krabi region — long stretches of white sand with clear water and a completely natural, undeveloped character. The main beach on the west coast is the finest — a wide, quiet bay with excellent swimming and extraordinary views of the surrounding limestone islands. The beaches are rarely crowded even at peak season.
Koh Jum is the most unspoilt island in the Krabi region — the interior is covered in dense jungle, the coastline is largely undeveloped and the natural character of the island is extraordinary. The island is home to a variety of wildlife including monitor lizards, tropical birds and the marine life of the surrounding reef. Walking and cycling through the jungle interior is excellent.
Koh Jum has a small number of excellent boutique resorts — the Koh Jum Beach Villas and the Koh Jum Lodge are among the finest. The resorts are small and intimate, with direct beach access and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere. The quality is high and the seclusion is extraordinary. The resorts are the best choice for couples and honeymooners.
Koh Jum has a genuine local fishing community — a mix of Thai Buddhist and Muslim fishing families who have lived on the island for generations. The local village is a fascinating insight into traditional island life and is a refreshing contrast to the resort areas. The community is welcoming to respectful visitors.
The waters around Koh Jum have excellent snorkelling — the reefs around the island are healthy and home to a variety of tropical fish, coral and marine life. The snorkelling is accessible directly from the beach and the water clarity is excellent. The island is also a good base for diving trips to the nearby reefs.
Koh Jum has the most peaceful and authentic atmosphere of any island in the Krabi region — completely free from mass tourism, with no jet skis, no beach clubs and no Bangla Road. The evenings are quiet and the pace of life is wonderfully slow. It is the best choice for those who want a genuine escape from the modern world.
Koh Jum is accessible by ferry from Krabi Town (approximately 1.5 hours) or by longtail boat from the mainland. The island is also on the ferry route between Krabi and Koh Lanta, making it easy to combine with a visit to Koh Lanta. The ferry journey through the limestone karst islands is beautiful.
Koh Jum has a small but excellent selection of restaurants — the resort restaurants serve good Thai and international food, and the local village has several excellent Thai restaurants serving fresh seafood at very low prices. The quality is good and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed. The fresh seafood is the highlight.
