Agadir Holiday Guide

Agadir is Morocco's premier beach resort and one of the most reliable sun destinations in North Africa — a modern, cosmopolitan city on the Atlantic coast with over 300 days of sunshine per year, a spectacular 10km crescent of golden sand and world-class resort facilities.

The beach is the main draw — a vast, beautiful stretch of golden Atlantic sand with warm water, excellent facilities and a lively atmosphere. The consistent Atlantic winds make Agadir one of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing destinations in the world, and the beach is lined with water sports operators catering for all levels.

Beyond the beach, Agadir offers some excellent day trips. Paradise Valley — a stunning natural gorge with rock pools and waterfalls in the Atlas Mountain foothills — is just 60km away and one of the most beautiful natural attractions in southern Morocco. The Souss-Massa National Park, just south of the city, is home to flamingos and the critically endangered northern bald ibis.

Taroudant, often called "little Marrakesh", is a beautifully preserved walled city just 80km away — a wonderful half-day trip with a spectacular medina and excellent souks, without the tourist crowds of Marrakesh itself.

The Agadir Kasbah, a 16th-century fortress on the hill above the city, offers spectacular panoramic views over the bay and is particularly beautiful at sunset. The modern marina has excellent restaurants specialising in fresh Atlantic seafood.

Agadir was largely destroyed by a devastating earthquake in 1960 and rebuilt as a modern resort city — which means it lacks the ancient medinas of Marrakesh or Fes, but compensates with excellent infrastructure, wide boulevards, modern hotels and a genuinely relaxed resort atmosphere.

Direct flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester take approximately 3 hours 40 minutes. UK passport holders do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days.

Top 8 Things To Do in Agadir

Golden Atlantic beaches, world-class water sports, spectacular national parks, stunning day trips and the best sunshine record in North Africa.

01

Agadir Beach

Agadir Beach is Morocco's finest beach resort — a spectacular 10km crescent of golden sand with warm Atlantic water, excellent facilities and a lively beach atmosphere. The beach is lined with hotels, beach clubs, restaurants and water sports operators. The water is warm enough for swimming from April to November, and the consistent Atlantic winds make Agadir one of the best kitesurfing and windsurfing destinations in the world.

02

Water Sports

Agadir is one of the best water sports destinations in Morocco — the consistent Atlantic winds and warm water make it ideal for kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing, jet skiing, paddleboarding and kayaking. Several water sports schools and hire centres operate from the beach, catering for all levels from complete beginners to experienced riders. Deep-sea fishing trips are also available from the marina, targeting tuna, swordfish and marlin.

03

Souss-Massa National Park

The Souss-Massa National Park is a spectacular protected area just south of Agadir — home to flamingos, the critically endangered northern bald ibis (one of the rarest birds in the world), ospreys and a wide variety of other wildlife. The park encompasses the estuaries of the Souss and Massa rivers, with beautiful Atlantic beaches, sand dunes and wetlands. Guided wildlife tours are available from Agadir.

04

Paradise Valley

Paradise Valley is a stunning natural gorge in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, about 60km from Agadir — a series of natural rock pools and waterfalls surrounded by palm trees and dramatic rock formations. It is one of the most popular day trips from Agadir, and the swimming in the rock pools is wonderful. The drive through the argan oil forests is beautiful in itself.

05

Taroudant & Day Trips

Taroudant — often called 'little Marrakesh' — is a beautifully preserved walled city just 80km from Agadir, with a spectacular medina, excellent souks and a relaxed atmosphere that is a world away from the tourist crowds of Marrakesh. Other excellent day trips include the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the argan oil cooperatives of the Souss Valley and the Atlantic beaches south of Agadir.

06

Agadir Kasbah

The Agadir Kasbah is a 16th-century fortress on the hill above the city — largely destroyed by the devastating 1960 earthquake that killed 15,000 people and levelled the old city, but the ruins offer spectacular panoramic views over Agadir, the bay and the surrounding countryside. The kasbah is particularly beautiful at sunset, when the light turns the old walls golden and the bay below glows in the evening light.

07

Marina & Restaurants

Agadir's modern marina is one of the best in Morocco — a beautiful waterfront development with excellent restaurants, bars, cafés and boutique shops. The marina restaurants specialise in fresh Atlantic seafood — grilled fish, prawns, lobster and oysters — and the setting overlooking the boats is wonderful. The marina area is lively in the evenings and a great place to watch the sunset over the Atlantic.

08

Golf & Wellness

Agadir is one of the best golf destinations in Morocco — the city has several excellent golf courses set against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic coast, with year-round sunshine making it ideal for golf holidays. The city also has a thriving spa and wellness scene, with hammams, thalassotherapy centres and luxury spa hotels offering everything from traditional Moroccan treatments to international wellness programmes.
