Cancun is one of the world's great holiday destinations — a dazzling stretch of Caribbean coastline in south-eastern Mexico that has grown from a small fishing village into one of the most visited resort destinations on the planet. The Hotel Zone is a 14-mile strip of Caribbean coastline lined with world-class all-inclusive resorts, restaurants, shopping malls and the most famous nightlife in Mexico.
The beaches are extraordinary. Playa Delfines, at the southern tip of the Hotel Zone, is the most iconic — home to the famous Cancun sign and with stunning open views of the Caribbean. The northern beaches, around Playa Tortugas and Playa Langosta, have calmer water and are better for families. The all-inclusive resorts of the Hotel Zone are among the best in the world — Moon Palace, Hyatt Ziva, Hard Rock, Riu and Iberostar offer exceptional value.
Beyond the Hotel Zone, the wider Yucatan Peninsula offers some of the most extraordinary day trip destinations in the world. Chichen Itza — one of the New Seven Wonders of the World — is just 2.5 hours by road. Tulum's clifftop Mayan ruins, perched above a stunning Caribbean beach, are 1.5 hours south. Isla Mujeres, a tiny car-free island with one of the world's best beaches, is 20 minutes by ferry.
The cenotes of the Riviera Maya are one of Mexico's most unique experiences — natural freshwater sinkholes connected to the world's largest underground river system. Gran Cenote, Dos Ojos and Cenote Azul are among the most beautiful. Cozumel, off the coast of Playa del Carmen, is home to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef — the second largest in the world — making it one of the top diving destinations on the planet.
The nightlife is legendary. Coco Bongo, Mandala and The City are among the most famous clubs in the world. The clubs run until 5am or later, and the atmosphere during Spring Break is extraordinary. But Cancun is far more than just a party destination — it is a gateway to one of the richest cultural and natural landscapes in the Americas.
