The Uluwatu Temple and Kecak fire dance at sunset is the most spectacular cultural experience in Bali — unmissable. The surf is world-class: the Uluwatu break, Padang Padang, Bingin and Impossibles are among the finest waves in Asia.

Single Fin bar has the most spectacular Sunday sessions in Bali — live music, cold beer and extraordinary views of the surf. Karma Beach and Sundays Beach Club are the finest beach clubs in Bali.

Padang Padang Beach (made famous by Eat Pray Love) is the most beautiful small beach in Bali. Bingin Beach has the most atmospheric cliff-face restaurants. Nyang Nyang Beach is the most remote and unspoilt.

Uluwatu has the finest luxury resorts in Bali — the Alila Villas, Karma Kandara and Bulgari Resort are extraordinary. Nusa Dua (30 minutes) has the finest family beach resorts. Seminyak (45 minutes) has the best restaurants and beach clubs.

Top 8 Things To Do in Uluwatu

The clifftop temples, world-class surf, hidden beaches and extraordinary sunsets that make Uluwatu the most dramatic and spectacular area in Bali.

01

Uluwatu Temple & Kecak Fire Dance

Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of the six most important Hindu temples in Bali — a 10th-century sea temple perched on a 70-metre limestone cliff above the Indian Ocean, with extraordinary views in every direction. The Kecak fire dance performed at the temple every evening at sunset (with the Indian Ocean as the backdrop) is the most spectacular cultural performance in Bali. Arrive early for the best seats.

02

World-Class Surf Breaks

Uluwatu has the finest surf in Bali — the Uluwatu break (a long, powerful left-hander that can hold waves up to 15 feet, one of the most famous surf breaks in the world), Padang Padang (a short, hollow barrel that hosted the Rip Curl Cup), Bingin (a perfect, shallow reef break) and Impossibles (a long, fast left). All are best from April to October.

03

Single Fin & Clifftop Bars

Single Fin is the most famous bar in Uluwatu — a clifftop bar above the Uluwatu surf break with extraordinary views of the waves, cold Bintang beer and the most spectacular Sunday sessions in Bali (live music, DJs and hundreds of surfers and travellers watching the sunset). The Sunday session is one of the great social events in Bali.

04

Karma Beach & Sundays Beach Club

Karma Beach is the most exclusive beach club in Bali — a private beach at the base of the Karma Kandara resort cliffs, accessible by cable car, with extraordinary turquoise water, sun loungers, excellent food and cocktails. Sundays Beach Club (at the Ungasan Clifftop Resort) is equally spectacular — a beautiful beach with a pool, excellent food and extraordinary views.

05

Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach is the most beautiful small beach in Bali — a tiny cove of white sand and turquoise water, accessed through a narrow cave in the limestone cliff. Made famous by the film 'Eat Pray Love' (Julia Roberts), it is one of the most photographed beaches in Bali. The beach is small and gets crowded — arrive early. The surf break is world-class.

06

Bingin Beach

Bingin Beach is the most atmospheric beach in Uluwatu — a small, beautiful beach at the base of the limestone cliffs, accessible by a steep staircase, with a cluster of extraordinary warung restaurants and simple guesthouses built into the cliff face. The Bingin surf break is one of the finest in Bali. The sunset views from the cliff above are extraordinary.

07

Nyang Nyang Beach

Nyang Nyang Beach is the most remote and unspoilt beach in Bali — a vast, empty stretch of white sand and turquoise water on the south-west coast of the Bukit Peninsula, accessible only by a 20-minute walk down a steep cliff path. Almost no facilities, almost no crowds. One of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches in Bali.

08

Uluwatu Luxury Resorts

Uluwatu has the finest luxury resorts in Bali — the Alila Villas Uluwatu (perched on the clifftop with extraordinary views), the Karma Kandara (with the famous Karma Beach below), the Anantara Uluwatu (with an infinity pool overlooking the Indian Ocean) and the Bulgari Resort (the most exclusive hotel in Bali, with private villas on the cliff). All are extraordinary.
