Little Tobago, world-class diving, manta rays and extraordinary birdwatching on Tobago's northeast coast.

Little Tobago — Bird of Paradise Island

Little Tobago is one of the most extraordinary wildlife destinations in the Caribbean — a small uninhabited island just offshore from Speyside, known as the 'Bird of Paradise Island' after Sir William Ingram imported 50 birds of paradise from New Guinea in 1909. The island is now a wildlife sanctuary and one of the finest birdwatching destinations in the Caribbean, home to red-billed tropicbirds, magnificent frigatebirds, brown boobies and a wide variety of other species.

World-Class Diving

Speyside is one of the best diving destinations in the Caribbean — the waters around the village are home to spectacular coral reefs, manta rays, eagle rays, sea turtles, nurse sharks and a dazzling variety of marine life. The dive sites around Little Tobago and St Giles Island are particularly spectacular, with excellent visibility and a wide variety of coral formations. Several dive operators are based in Speyside.

St Giles Island

St Giles Island is an uninhabited island accessible by boat from Speyside — one of the most spectacular diving and snorkelling destinations in Tobago. The waters around the island are home to extraordinary marine life, including manta rays, eagle rays, sea turtles and a wide variety of coral. The island is also home to a large seabird colony, with red-billed tropicbirds and magnificent frigatebirds nesting on the cliffs.

Birdwatching

Speyside and the surrounding area is one of the finest birdwatching destinations in the Caribbean. The Main Ridge Forest Reserve, just inland from Speyside, is home to over 200 species of birds, including the rare white-tailed sabrewing hummingbird. The Village

Speyside is one of the most charming and authentic villages in Tobago — an idyllic fishing village with a small harbour, a few excellent restaurants serving fresh seafood and a wonderfully unhurried atmosphere. The village is a world away from the tourist bustle of Crown Point, with a genuine, local character that gives visitors a real taste of Tobagonian life. The sunsets over the bay are spectacular.
