Things To Do at Tobago Cays

Sea turtles, extraordinary coral reefs and the most spectacular marine park in the Caribbean.

Snorkelling with Sea Turtles

The Tobago Cays are one of the best places in the world to snorkel with sea turtles. The waters around Baradal Island are home to a large population of hawksbill and green turtles, which can be observed at close range in their natural habitat. The turtles are completely at ease with snorkellers and often swim alongside visitors. The experience is extraordinary and completely unforgettable.

Horseshoe Reef & Coral

The Horseshoe Reef is one of the most spectacular coral formations in the Caribbean — a magnificent horseshoe-shaped reef that protects the five uninhabited cays of the Tobago Cays. The reef is home to an extraordinary variety of marine life, including stingrays, nurse sharks, parrotfish, angelfish and a dazzling variety of coral. The clarity of the water is exceptional, with visibility often exceeding 30 metres.

Sailing & Yacht Anchorage

The Tobago Cays are one of the most popular sailing destinations in the Caribbean — a spectacular anchorage surrounded by uninhabited islands and pristine coral reefs. Day trips by catamaran and yacht depart from Bequia, Union Island and other islands in the Grenadines. Many visitors choose to spend several days anchored in the Cays, exploring the reefs and beaches at leisure.

Petit Tabac — Pirates of the Caribbean

Petit Tabac is a tiny, picture-perfect uninhabited island in the Tobago Cays — a stunning crescent of white sand fringed with palm trees, used as a location in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The island is the quintessential Caribbean desert island and is one of the most photographed spots in the Grenadines. A barbecue on the beach, arranged with local fishermen, is a wonderful experience.

Getting There

The Tobago Cays are accessible only by boat. Day trips by catamaran depart from Bequia, Union Island, Canouan and Mayreau. Many visitors choose to explore the Cays as part of a sailing charter through the Grenadines. The Cays are a protected national marine park and visitors are asked to respect the coral reefs and marine life. Anchoring on the reef is prohibited.
