Things To Do in Bequia

Beaches, sailing, regattas and the most charming island atmosphere in the Grenadines.

Princess Margaret Beach

Princess Margaret Beach is one of the finest beaches in the Grenadines — a beautiful crescent of silky smooth sand just a short walk from Port Elizabeth, with perfect swimming water and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The beach is named after Princess Margaret, who visited Bequia in the 1950s. A water taxi from Port Elizabeth harbour drops you directly at the beach. The snorkelling just offshore is excellent.

Port Elizabeth & the Harbour

Port Elizabeth is the main town and harbour of Bequia — a picturesque waterfront lined with yachts, excellent restaurants, bars and boutique shops. The harbour is one of the most popular anchorages in the Caribbean and is particularly lively during the Bequia Easter Regatta, the largest sailing event in the South Caribbean. The Frangipani Hotel bar is a legendary gathering spot for the yachting community.

Lower Bay Beach & Snorkelling

Lower Bay Beach is a beautiful stretch of sand on the south coast of Bequia, with excellent snorkelling in the clear water just offshore. The beach has a small number of restaurants and bars, with a wonderfully relaxed, local atmosphere. The snorkelling is particularly good, with a wide variety of marine life including sea turtles, rays and tropical fish. The beach is accessible by water taxi from Port Elizabeth.

Bequia Easter Regatta

The Bequia Easter Regatta is the largest sailing event in the South Caribbean — a spectacular five-day festival of world-class sailing held every Easter. The regatta attracts yachts from across the Caribbean and beyond, with racing during the day and parties on the beach at night. The atmosphere is extraordinary — a wonderful combination of competitive sailing and Caribbean celebration.

Bequia Music Festival & Turtle Sanctuary

The Bequia Music Festival, held every January, is a four-day extravaganza of Caribbean and international music in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary is a conservation project protecting hawksbill turtles, where visitors can see turtles at various stages of development. Bequia has a wonderful tradition of model boat building, and the local craftsmen produce exquisite hand-crafted models.
