Things To Do in St George's

The best history, culture and harbour life in Grenada's beautiful capital.

The Carenage

The Carenage is the inner harbour of St George's and the social heart of the city — a horseshoe-shaped waterfront lined with colourful Georgian buildings, restaurants, bars and small shops. Fishing boats and yachts bob in the harbour, and the atmosphere is wonderfully Caribbean. It is one of the most photogenic spots in the entire Caribbean.

Fort George

Fort George is an 18th-century fort perched on a headland above St George's harbour, with panoramic views over the city, the harbour and the Caribbean Sea. Built by the French in 1705 and later taken by the British, the fort is one of the best-preserved in the Caribbean and offers extraordinary views from its ramparts.

Market Square & Spices

Market Square is the bustling heart of St George's — a colourful, fragrant market selling fresh produce, spices, local crafts and street food. The aroma of nutmeg, mace, cinnamon and cloves fills the air. It is the best place in Grenada to buy local spices, rum and crafts to take home. The market is at its most vibrant on Saturday mornings.

Grenada National Museum

The Grenada National Museum, housed in a former French barracks dating from 1704, has a small but fascinating collection of exhibits on Grenada's history and culture — from the island's indigenous Arawak and Carib peoples through the colonial era to the present day. The museum is one of the oldest buildings in St George's.

Restaurants & Nightlife

St George's has an excellent selection of restaurants and bars. The Carenage waterfront is lined with restaurants serving fresh seafood, local Grenadian dishes and international cuisine. The BB's Crabback restaurant is a local institution. The city has a lively nightlife scene, particularly on weekend evenings when the bars and rum shops come alive.
