Caribbean Cruises Holiday Guide

A Caribbean cruise is one of the most magical holiday experiences in the world. Imagine waking up each morning to a new island — crystal-clear turquoise water, white sand beaches, rum cocktails and the warmth of the Caribbean sun. It is the kind of holiday that stays with you forever.

Most Caribbean cruises depart from Barbados, Antigua or Miami, with itineraries covering the Eastern, Western or Southern Caribbean. Eastern Caribbean itineraries typically visit St Lucia, Grenada, Tobago and Barbados. Western Caribbean cruises often include Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Cozumel and private islands. Southern Caribbean routes take in Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire.

The ships sailing the Caribbean are among the most spectacular in the world. Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas and Icon of the Seas are extraordinary — with waterparks, surf simulators, ice skating rinks, multiple pools and dozens of restaurants. MSC Virtuosa and Norwegian Epic also offer outstanding Caribbean experiences.

One of the highlights of a Caribbean cruise is the private island experience. Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay and MSC's Ocean Cay are purpose-built paradise islands exclusive to cruise guests — with pristine beaches, water parks, snorkelling and the most beautiful water you have ever seen.

Shore excursions bring the islands to life. In St Lucia, a catamaran trip to the Pitons is unforgettable. In Jamaica, Dunn's River Falls is a must. In Barbados, the east coast beaches and rum distilleries are highlights. In Antigua, you can visit a different beach every day of the week.

The best time for a Caribbean cruise is December to April, during the dry season. This avoids the Atlantic hurricane season (June to November) and offers the most reliable weather. However, cruises do operate year-round and late-season deals can offer exceptional value.
