Things To Do in Grand Turk

The Wall, humpback whales, Gibbs Cay stingrays and the charming colonial capital of Turks & Caicos.

The Wall — World-Class Diving

The Wall is one of the most famous dive sites in the world — a breathtaking 7,000-foot continental shelf drop-off just off the west coast of Grand Turk, where the shallow turquoise water suddenly plunges into the deep blue Atlantic. The Wall is home to an extraordinary variety of marine life, including sharks, turtles, eagle rays, manta rays, grouper and a dazzling variety of coral. Grand Turk is widely regarded as one of the top ten dive destinations in the world.

Humpback Whale Watching

The waters around Grand Turk are one of the best places in the world to watch humpback whales. Every year between January and April, thousands of humpback whales pass through the Columbus Passage between Grand Turk and South Caicos on their annual migration. Whale watching boat trips operate from Grand Turk during the season, offering an extraordinary and completely unforgettable experience — one of the highlights of any visit to the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Gibbs Cay — Swim with Stingrays

Gibbs Cay is a small uninhabited island just off the coast of Grand Turk — one of the most magical natural experiences in the Caribbean. The shallow, crystal-clear water around the island is home to a large population of wild southern stingrays, which have become accustomed to human visitors and will swim right up to you. Boat trips to Gibbs Cay from Grand Turk are one of the most popular excursions in the islands.

Cockburn Town

Cockburn Town is the capital of the Turks and Caicos Islands — a charming, historic town with beautifully restored 18th and 19th century Bermudan-style architecture, colourful wooden buildings and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The town is home to the Turks and Caicos National Museum, excellent restaurants and bars, and is the departure point for whale watching and stingray swimming excursions.

Grand Turk Lighthouse

The Grand Turk Lighthouse is a historic cast-iron lighthouse built in 1852 — one of the most iconic landmarks on the island, with spectacular views over Grand Turk and the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse is located on the northern tip of the island and is a popular destination for walkers and photographers. The surrounding area is home to wild horses and donkeys that roam freely along the beaches.
