Things To Do in Soufrière

The most dramatic natural attractions in the Caribbean — volcanoes, waterfalls, the Pitons and rainforest adventures.

Sulphur Springs — Drive-In Volcano

Sulphur Springs is one of the most extraordinary natural attractions in the Caribbean — the world's only 'drive-in' volcano, where you can drive right up to the bubbling volcanic vents and bathe in the mineral-rich mud pools. The sulphurous steam and bubbling grey mud are a dramatic reminder of St Lucia's volcanic origins. The mineral-rich mud is said to have therapeutic properties for the skin.

Diamond Botanical Gardens & Waterfall

The Diamond Botanical Gardens are among the most beautiful natural attractions on St Lucia — a stunning collection of tropical plants, flowers and trees surrounding a magnificent waterfall. The waterfall changes colour throughout the day due to the mineral content of the water. The gardens also have natural mineral baths fed by the volcanic springs, where visitors can bathe in the warm, therapeutic water.

The Pitons — Hiking & Views

Soufrière is the gateway to the iconic Pitons — the twin volcanic spires that are the defining image of St Lucia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gros Piton (798m) can be hiked with a local guide in about 3–4 hours, offering spectacular views over the island and the Caribbean. Petit Piton is a more challenging climb. Both peaks can be admired from the sea on a catamaran cruise departing from Soufrière.

Anse Chastanet & Snorkelling

Anse Chastanet is one of the finest beaches near Soufrière — a beautiful stretch of dark volcanic sand with excellent snorkelling and diving in the coral reefs just offshore. The beach is home to the legendary Anse Chastanet Resort, one of the most acclaimed boutique resorts in the Caribbean. The snorkelling at Anse Chastanet is among the best on the island, with a wide variety of marine life.

Rainforest & Zip Lines

Soufrière is surrounded by lush tropical rainforest — one of the most magnificent natural environments in the Caribbean. The best way to explore is via one of the island's aerial trams or zip lines, which offer a thrilling bird's-eye view of the forest canopy. Frequent tours and excursions run from Soufrière, offering an insight into the local plant life, wildlife and the island's volcanic geology.
