Things To Do in Christ Church

The best beaches, nightlife and experiences in Christ Church.

Saint Lawrence Gap

Saint Lawrence Gap — known locally as The Gap — is the liveliest area in Barbados after dark. A coastal strip lined with restaurants, bars, clubs and beach bars, it comes alive from dusk till dawn. McBride's Irish Pub, Harbour Lights beach club and the Reggae Lounge are among the most popular spots. The atmosphere is lively but friendly.

Oistins Fish Fry

The Oistins Fish Fry, held every Friday and Saturday evening, is the most authentic Barbadian food experience. Fresh fish — especially flying fish, the national dish — is cooked over open fires at a row of stalls. Rum punch, macaroni pie, peas and rice and live music complete the picture. It's hugely popular with both locals and tourists.

Miami Beach & Accra Beach

The south coast has excellent beaches for those who want a livelier atmosphere than the west coast. Miami Beach is good for swimming and surfing, with excellent beach bars. Accra Beach is a curved stretch of white sand that stays shallow for a fair distance — ideal for families with young children.

Windsurfing & Kitesurfing

Silver Sands Beach, at the southern tip of Christ Church, is the best windsurfing and kitesurfing beach in Barbados. The strong, consistent trade winds that blow across the south coast make it ideal for both sports. Several operators offer lessons and equipment hire for beginners.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve

About 30 minutes from Christ Church, the Barbados Wildlife Reserve is home to green monkeys, red-footed tortoises, iguanas, deer and a variety of tropical birds. The animals roam freely through a mahogany forest and are remarkably tame — the green monkeys will often come right up to visitors.
