Baby Beach's lagoon is one of the safest and most beautiful swimming spots in the Caribbean. The water is shallow, perfectly calm and an extraordinary shade of turquoise. The natural breakwater keeps out any waves or currents, making it ideal for children and nervous swimmers.
The reef at the edge of the lagoon is one of Aruba's best snorkelling spots. Parrotfish, angelfish, trumpetfish, rays and sea turtles are all regular sightings. The visibility is exceptional — often 20 metres or more. You can snorkel straight from the beach with no boat trip required.
Baby Beach is the best family beach in Aruba. The shallow, calm water is perfect for young children, and the natural shade from the surrounding cliffs provides welcome relief from the midday sun. There's a small beach shack serving cold drinks and local snacks.
Just around the headland from Baby Beach, Roger's Beach is an equally beautiful but even quieter spot. The water here is slightly deeper and better for swimming laps. It's a favourite with locals and rarely visited by tourists — a genuine hidden gem.
The small village of Seroe Colorado, just inland from Baby Beach, is one of the most authentic communities in Aruba. The old company houses from the Lago Oil Refinery era are still standing, and the Chapel of Alto Vista nearby is one of the island's most photographed landmarks.
Baby Beach is the kind of place that makes you wonder why you spent any time at all on the busier resort beaches. Located at the southern tip of Aruba, about 25 minutes from Palm Beach by car, it's a perfectly circular lagoon with water so clear, so calm and so turquoise that it barely looks real.
The name comes from the water's exceptional shallowness and calmness — it's so gentle that even the smallest children can wade in safely. The natural breakwater, formed by a curved reef, keeps out any waves or currents, creating a natural swimming pool effect. The sand on the beach is white and fine, and the surrounding landscape — low scrub, cactus and the occasional divi-divi tree — gives it a wild, unspoiled feel.
Snorkelling at Baby Beach is among the best in Aruba. The reef at the edge of the lagoon is home to an impressive variety of marine life — parrotfish, angelfish, trumpetfish, sergeant majors, rays and sea turtles are all regular sightings. The visibility is exceptional, often 20 metres or more, and the coral formations are in excellent condition. You can snorkel straight from the beach — no boat trip required.
The beach facilities are deliberately minimal, which is part of its charm. There's a small beach shack serving cold Balashi beers, fresh fish and local snacks, and a few sun loungers available for hire. There are no big resort hotels here — just the beach, the lagoon and the extraordinary Caribbean light.
Baby Beach is about 25 minutes by car from Palm Beach and 20 minutes from Oranjestad. It's worth combining with a visit to the nearby Seroe Colorado village and the Chapel of Alto Vista, one of the island's most photographed landmarks. The road to Baby Beach passes through the industrial area around the Valero oil refinery, which is a slightly jarring contrast — but once you arrive, it all makes sense.
The best time to visit is early morning, when the light is at its most beautiful and the beach is at its quietest. By midday it can get busy with day-trippers, but there's always space to find your own patch of sand.
