Things To Do at Pigeon Point

The best family beach in Antigua — calm water, snorkelling and a great beach bar.

Family Swimming

Pigeon Point is the best family beach in Antigua. The water is exceptionally calm and shallow — you can walk 50 metres from the shore and still only be waist-deep. The gentle gradient and lack of waves makes it perfect for young children and nervous swimmers. The beach is well-maintained and has good shade from the palm trees.

Snorkelling

The reef just offshore from Pigeon Point is one of the most accessible snorkelling sites in Antigua. The water is clear and the reef is in good condition, with a good variety of reef fish, sea fans and the occasional sea turtle. The calm conditions make it ideal for beginners and children.

Watersports

Pigeon Point has a good selection of watersports available from the beach, including kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling trips. The calm water makes it ideal for beginners. Several operators also offer boat trips to nearby beaches and snorkelling sites.

Cobb's Cross Beach Bar

The beach bar at Pigeon Point is one of the most relaxed and enjoyable on the island. Cold Wadadli beers, rum punch, fresh fish and Caribbean snacks are all available. The tables are right on the beach and the atmosphere is friendly and unhurried. It's the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon.

Nelson's Dockyard Day Trip

Pigeon Point is just 10 minutes by car from Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights, which makes it the perfect base for combining a beach day with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend the morning at the beach, have lunch at the bar, then head to the dockyard in the afternoon.

Pigeon Point Travel Guide

Pigeon Point Beach sits at the northern end of Falmouth Harbour, tucked between the marina and the open sea. It's not the most dramatic beach in Antigua — that title belongs to Half Moon Bay — but it might be the most practical, and for families with young children it's hard to beat.

The water here is exceptionally calm. Falmouth Harbour provides natural protection from the Atlantic swell, and the beach faces west into the Caribbean Sea, so the conditions are almost always gentle. The water is shallow for a long distance from the shore, which makes it ideal for young children who want to splash around without any risk. The sand is clean and white, and there's good natural shade from the palm trees that line the back of the beach.

The beach bar — Cobb's Cross — is one of the most enjoyable on the island. It's a proper Caribbean beach bar: cold beers, rum punch, fresh fish, friendly staff and tables right on the sand. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed. It's the kind of place where you sit down for a quick drink and find yourself still there three hours later.

The snorkelling just offshore is decent — not as spectacular as Half Moon Bay or the reefs around the north coast, but perfectly good for a first snorkelling experience or for children. The water is clear and the reef is accessible from the beach without a boat.

The real advantage of Pigeon Point is its location. It's just 10 minutes by car from Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights, which makes it the perfect base for a day that combines beach time with some of Antigua's most important historical sites. It's also within easy walking distance of Falmouth Harbour Marina, where the superyacht spotting is excellent.

Pigeon Point is about 45 minutes from the airport. Taxis are readily available from the marina area.
