Things To Do in Dickenson Bay

The best experiences, beaches and restaurants in the area.

Watersports

Dickenson Bay is Antigua's watersports capital. Jet skiing, banana boat rides, paddleboarding, kayaking and parasailing are all available directly from the beach. Several operators run snorkelling trips to nearby coral reefs.

Sandals Grande Antigua

One of the Caribbean's most celebrated luxury all-inclusive resorts sits right on Dickenson Bay. Even if you're not staying here, the resort's beach area sets the tone for the whole strip — pristine, well-maintained and genuinely beautiful.

Beach Bars & Restaurants

The bay is lined with excellent beach bars and restaurants. Coconut Grove is the most famous — a romantic beachfront spot serving fresh seafood and Caribbean classics. Putters Bar & Grill is the go-to for a cold Wadadli beer and a burger with your feet in the sand.

Sunset Watching

Dickenson Bay faces west, which means the sunsets here are extraordinary. Grab a rum punch from any beach bar around 6pm and watch the sky turn every shade of orange, pink and purple over the Caribbean Sea. It's one of those moments that makes you wonder why you ever stayed home.

Snorkelling at Sunken Rock

A short swim or boat ride from the bay, Sunken Rock is one of Antigua's most accessible snorkelling sites. Colourful reef fish, sea turtles and the occasional stingray are regular sightings. Most watersports operators on the beach run guided trips.

Dickenson Bay Travel Guide

Dickenson Bay is where most first-time visitors to Antigua end up — and once you've been, you'll understand why. The beach itself is genuinely spectacular: a long, gently curving stretch of golden sand with calm, shallow water that stays warm year-round. It's the kind of beach that makes you feel like you've earned it.

The resort strip here is the most developed on the island, which means you get the best facilities — sun loungers, beach bars, watersports operators, restaurants and hotels all within easy walking distance. It's busy by Antiguan standards, but never feels crowded in the way that Mediterranean resorts can. There's always space to find your own patch of sand.

Sandals Grande Antigua dominates the northern end of the bay and is one of the most photographed resorts in the Caribbean. The white colonial-style buildings, manicured gardens and pristine beach make it look almost too perfect. Rex Halcyon Cove at the southern end is a more relaxed, family-friendly option with an excellent watersports centre.

For eating and drinking, you're spoilt for choice. Coconut Grove is the standout — a proper beachfront restaurant with tables in the sand, excellent fresh fish and a wine list that punches well above its weight for a Caribbean beach bar. For something more casual, the beach shacks along the bay serve cold beers, jerk chicken and fresh lobster at prices that won't make your eyes water.

Getting to Dickenson Bay from the airport takes about 15 minutes by taxi. It's also within easy reach of St John's (about 10 minutes), so you can combine a beach day with some shopping and sightseeing without any hassle.
